Wild Alaskan Salmon

It's that time of year again! Wild Alaskan Salmon is in season and the best you can get is from the Copper River. This salmon is special for a variety of reasons all of which add to it's flavor.

The Copper River is over 300 miles long with an elevation increase of over 3500 feet to get to the spawning grounds for these salmon. It is a very difficult journey that requires preparation to complete. These salmon are better suited to colder water and have a naturally high fat and Omega-3 content that helps make these fish suitable for the harsh environment. The high fat content provides the energy for the journey but also adds to the rich flavor.

In addition to the wonderful flavor, these are the fish that first begin the spawning run in spring. This means that these are the wild salmon that are first caught and available each year. There are strict rules enforced to ensure the continued sustainability of these fish including limits to the amount of fish that may be harvested each year. While this means we will all enjoy Copper River salmon for many years to come, it also limits available fish and means the price is set at a premium.

We will be offering Copper River King Salmon this weekend and for the next few weeks while it is available. If you have never tried it, make sure you stop in before it is gone. It is a unique fish and well worth a trip!
